aa-rt is pleased to have begun distribution of it’s new free local art and culture publication open canvas. The aim of the gazette is to promote events and exhibitions in the region and present good quality and affordable advertising options for local businesses and services. With contributions from the Light House and Jinney Ring in the first edition, it looks set to become a regular favourite amongst readers in Stourbridge, Hagley and surrounding villages, receiving excellent feedback so far. With time, aa-rt would like to widen the distribution to make open canvas the essential reference in the region for creative activities. Visit

Win a piece of Art History – for only £1!!!

If you have been following the ambitious ‘One and Other’ 4th Plinth project in Trafalgar Square organised by sculptor Antony Gormley, you might have caught the live video stream of local man Karl Jones on the afternoon of August 28th.
Over the course of 100 days, 2400 participants spent an hour each on the plinth with the freedom to do anything at all! Needless to say, a few eyebrows were raised... Precariously juggling a mobile phone and paintbrushes whilst chatting to local radio station The Bridge, Karl used his hour on the Plinth to raise money for Acorn Children’s charity by collecting sponsorship to paint “what I can see” from his perch.

“The Plinth was an amazing experience” says Karl, whose finished piece Angles of the Square is up for raffle through aa-rt the gallery to raise more funds for Acorn. Tickets are only £1 each, so if you fancy owning a canvas with a very unusual claim to fame and contributing to an excellent cause at the same time, please pay the gallery a visit or email us to pledge a donation; info@aa-rt.co.uk

On 28th August, Karl Jones of Stourbridge is due to take up a place on Antony Gormley’s famous 4th Plinth project in Trafalgar Square. Karl aims to use his hour to produce something on canvas, donating the sponsorship money that he raises to Acorn Children’s charity.

You can watch him live by following the ONE&OTHER link to the left.

aa-rt is delighted that Karl would like to put the finished piece up for sale in our gallery, again in support of Acorn.

A Private View - 24/07/09

We would like to thank everyone who came along to aa-rt’s first Private View Evening on July 24th, making it so successful. By 8.15pm the gallery was completely full and in need of an air conditioning unit!

The wine flowed with the conversation and debate and all who browsed the work seemed to find something that appealed. It was great to have some of our Artists on hand to talk through their pieces with guests, projecting the enthusiasm and passion for their work.

Both Helen and Sean had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and we very much look forward to the second Viewing, planned for early November.

Please contact the gallery if you would like to receive a future invitation.

aa-rt on the Bridge - 24/07/09

On Friday 24th between 2-3pm, Sean had the pleasure of being interviewed by local radio presenter Mark Williams on The Bridge radio station (102.5fm).

He was quizzed about the gallery itself, Sean’s artistic influences, background and opinions - he managed to cover our community and charity interests too…. In fact, he was so chatty that they had to cut the play-list right down!

Our thanks to David and Alex for their involvement.

Creative Juices - 17/07/09
